BRADFORD- STUDENT CITY GUIDE

The City

Don’t worry, London students; London is far better than the terrible clubs you visited during Fresher’s Week. Away from the Tiger Tigers and Zoos there is a whole world of fantastic nightlife and student pubs in London.

Arts and Culture

  1. Bradford’s Media Museum has long been an interesting attraction for both residents and visitors alike. Home of the giant Imax screen, the Media Museum features galleries to suite all tastes. Whether retro TV, the history of moving pictures or the future of technology are your thing, Bradford’s Media Museum has it all; moreover, entry to the galleries is free.

  2. Looking for somewhere to just kick back and relax? Then a visit to Lister Park is a must. Just 10 minutes out of the city centre, this large park is home to Cartwright Hall Museum, rolling fields, and the pedalo lake if you fancy spending a chilled out hour on the water. An island of green in a city scene, and one of the most popular places to escape the bustle for a few hours, Lister Park has everything you need for a quiet afternoon away from it all.

  3. The Alhambra Theatre, located just five minutes from campus, is the venue for touring shows from the West End. Showing everything from The Lion King to The Rocky Horror Show and the well-loved pantomime, and with generous student discounts and a bar/bistro, The Alhambra is the place to go for a more cultured night out.

Places To Eat

  1. Bradford has some of the best curry houses in the north, no question. One of the most popular with residents of the city and visitors alike is The Sweet Centre. Established in 1964, The Sweet Centre, Manningham (five minutes from the city centre) was one of the first Indian restaurants to open in the UK. For a great way to start the day, turn up early for a traditional Chickpea curry breakfast.

Things To Do

One of the first ports of call for students straight from campus is to head to Centenary Square and the fantastic Mirror Pool fountains. This stunning pool and fountains with its surrounding grassy area provides a great meeting place, and with Starbucks, Wetherspoons, Nando’s and Chinese Buffet just two minutes away, it is a great focal point and by far one of the city’s most popular areas for students and families alike. Not just a daytime attraction, as night draws in, the Mirror Pool is transformed into a lightshow and is often the venue for various forms of entertainment throughout the year.

Music and Nightlife

  1. Night life! Does Bradford have one? Yes, it does! You want clubs? We have clubs. If you’re a fan of the metal scene, you can’t go far wrong with ‘Trash’, Bradford’s only remaining rock club. Love your alternative events? Check out ‘Trap Door’ at The Mill, where the party never ends.

  2. Looking for a decent pub with some live music? The Black Swan has live rock bands, DJ nights and, for those with an exhibitionist streak, there’s Friday night Karaoke! Active in the LGBT community and looking for a gay bar? Then check out Candy and the fabulous Sun Hotel.

  3. Just want to enjoy a quiet drink in a friendly atmosphere? Then The Beehive Inn is the place to be. A warm welcome, a roaring open fire and the occasional live band. Just the place to sit and chat, and yes, you can actually hear yourself think.
